SEAOH Special Voting Meeting

Aloha SEAOH Members,

This year there has been a lot of discussion about the topic of including Risk Category II buildings for tsunami design.  Most notably this issue arose during meetings by the City and County of Honolulu in which they were updating their code amendments.  The board is aware that there are differing opinions on the matter within SEAOH.  In this light, SEAOH will be holding a special voting meeting of members.  The meeting will include a chance for anyone who has the desire to speak to the group for a pre-determined time to voice their personal opinion.  By request, members will have the option to attend the meeting virtually (see meeting link at the end below). 

There will also be a portion of the meeting for open discussion.  At the end of the discussion a vote will be held to determine the official SEAOH membership opinion on the matter.  The vote will be held via an online method to allow virtual attendees (MEMBERS only) to cast their vote.  Per the SEAOH bylaws, in order for this meeting to be valid, the following criteria must be met:

• A quorum of MEMBERS must be present at the meeting. A quorum is defined as 10% of MEMBERS (member classification).  As of last week, the current count of MEMBERS was 109, therefore 11 MEMBERS must be present to constitute a quorum.  Other member classifications are welcome to attend the meeting, but will not receive a vote.
• A simple majority vote of the quorum will constitute an opinion of SEAOH membership.  A letter will be drafted after the meeting outlining the opinion of SEAOH membership, which will be posted on the website and forwarded to any parties that request the letter.
• Per the Bylaws, proxy voting is prohibited.

Existing letters of opposition and support will be sent out prior to the meeting.  Meeting minutes will be recorded during the meeting and distributed upon request after the meeting.

As the current president, I will be moderating the meeting.  SEAOH looks forward to your participation and contributions on this important topic.
